1) Overview & principles

  • Wattly is a companion app for Tesla owners that keeps you informed about your vehicle in real time.
  • Built with a privacy-first mindset: you sign in on Tesla’s official page, and credentials stay with Tesla.
  • Core goals: clarity (clean UI), control (commands and alerts), and transparency (data ownership is yours).

2) Getting started

  1. Download Wattly from the App Store.
  2. Open the app and tap Sign in with Tesla to connect through Tesla’s official login.
  3. Choose whether to add Wattly as a virtual key (needed for vehicle commands; optional for read-only).
  4. Enable Telemetry if you want automatic background recording of trips and charges (optional).
  5. Set your currency and electricity price so charging cost estimates reflect your bill.
  6. Allow notifications to receive charging and security alerts.

3) Accounts & security

  • Sign-in happens on Tesla’s secure page with OAuth. Wattly never sees your password.
  • Access tokens are stored in your iOS Keychain; you can sign out anytime.
  • Remove access whenever you want: sign out in Wattly, revoke the app in Tesla, or remove the virtual key.
  • No ads or marketing trackers; data is processed in the EU.

4) Vehicles & data refresh

  • Multiple vehicles: switch between them from the dashboard if your Tesla account has more than one car.
  • Manual refresh: pull to refresh or tap the refresh action when you need the latest data.
  • Wake sleeping vehicles: use the wake action when Tesla puts the car to sleep.
  • Last updated indicators help you know when data was last fetched.

5) Dashboard

  • At-a-glance status: battery %, estimated range, charging state, climate status, current location.
  • Quick actions: open charge port, start/stop charging, toggle climate (requires virtual key for commands).
  • Vehicle selector: pick the active vehicle if you manage more than one.
  • Health cues: see alerts when the vehicle is asleep, charging, or needs attention.

6) Vehicle commands

Commands require adding Wattly as a virtual key in the Tesla app. You can keep Wattly in read-only mode if you prefer not to use commands.

  • Lock / unlock the vehicle
  • Start / stop climate conditioning
  • Open / close the charge port
  • Wake the vehicle when it is asleep
Safety note: Only send commands when you are certain it is safe and intended.

7) Charging

  • Live session view: power, energy added, range gained, estimated time remaining.
  • History: every session with start/end time, duration, location, energy, and cost estimate.
  • Costs: set your electricity price and currency; Wattly uses this to estimate home charging costs.
  • Alerts: get notified on charge completion or unexpected stops.
  • DC vs AC: spot faster sessions and compare efficiency across locations.

8) Trips & driving history

  • Automatic recording when telemetry is enabled; otherwise, data updates when you refresh.
  • Per-trip details: distance, duration, energy used, efficiency, and route visualization.
  • Patterns: identify commute efficiency, weekend trips, or long-haul routes.
  • Driving style hints: see how speed, climate use, or terrain affect consumption.
Telemetry is optional: Turn it on for automatic trip and charge recording. Turn it off anytime to limit data to on-demand refreshes.

9) Battery health

  • Track capacity trends over time to keep an eye on battery health.
  • Monitor estimated range and charging speed across AC/DC to spot anomalies.
  • View consumption per 100 km/mi to understand efficiency changes over seasons or routes.

10) Telemetry & data capture

  • Telemetry streams real-time vehicle data to keep trips and charges updated automatically.
  • You control it: enable/disable from Settings; when off, only manual refresh is used.
  • Data scope: location, speed, battery state, charging metrics, and climate status for accurate history.
  • Storage: processed in the EU; no advertising use.

11) Notifications & alerts

  • Charging: completion, unexpected stop, unplugged cable, or major drop in charge speed.
  • Security: Sentry Mode events and notable vehicle state changes.
  • Reminders: wake or refresh prompts when the vehicle is asleep and you request an update.
  • Control in Settings: choose which alerts you want to receive.

12) Widgets & lock screen

  • Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets (where supported) for quick battery, range, and status glance.
  • Choose the widget size and layout that fits your home or lock screen.
  • Live Activities (during charging) to see progress without opening the app.

13) Settings & personalization

  • Units & currency: km/mi, °C/°F, and preferred currency.
  • Electricity price: set per kWh to improve cost estimates.
  • Telemetry toggle: control background capture of trips and sessions.
  • Notifications: enable/disable categories to match your preference.
  • Appearance: choose the theme that matches your taste (if available in your build).

14) Privacy & data control

  • Privacy-first: no selling of data, no ads, no marketing trackers.
  • Authentication: handled by Tesla; Wattly never stores your password.
  • Storage: tokens remain in your iOS Keychain; server data is processed in the EU.
  • Control: sign out anytime, revoke Tesla access, or request deletion.
  • Data deletion: email privacy@wattlyapp.tech to request complete deletion.

15) Troubleshooting & FAQs

Vehicle data is not updating

  • Check vehicle connectivity (cellular/Wi‑Fi) and try a manual refresh.
  • If the car is asleep, use the wake action and wait a moment.
  • Sign out and sign back in if Tesla authorization may have expired.
  • If using telemetry, confirm it is enabled in Settings.

Commands are unavailable

  • Ensure Wattly is added as a virtual key in the Tesla app (required for commands).
  • Be near the vehicle for the first pairing if Tesla requests proximity.

Charging costs look different from my bill

  • Update your electricity price and currency in Settings.
  • Remember real charger consumption can be higher than battery energy due to losses (5–15%).

I want read-only access

  • Do not add the virtual key; keep telemetry off if you prefer minimal data collection.
